The men that built the MFG of today
Published August 2010

Here’s looking at more than 200 years of service between five elder statesmen of Midlands-based MFG Solicitors or its predecessor firms.

Four were senior partners (left to right) Jim Quinn, 1999-2006; Terry Morgan, 1994-1999; Michael James, 1986-1991; and Noel Richardson, 1959-1986.

Ken Hobson (foreground) was senior partner of Marcy Hemmingway & Sons, of Bewdley, which was amalgamated with Ivens & Morton in 1971 of which he became a partner.

The late Norman Fisher was senior partner between Mr James and Mr Morgan.

They all recently came together to celebrate the retirement of Mr Quinn, who remains a consultant.

Mr Quinn noted: “Noel started in the law in 1954, Michael in 1950, Terry in 1954, Ken in 1962, and myself in 1960, a combined total of 270 years.

“However our actual service as partners or employees of the successive firms amounts to about 220 years as the others had all, apart from me, retired some time ago.”

Chairman Maynard Burton said: “What a wealth of knowledge. It was wonderful to see them all together.

“They gave long and loyal service to MFG Solicitors which would not be what it is today – a strong firm with a major Midlands presence – without their distinctive contributions and wise leadership.”
