Fiona Barnes - Head of Division Fiona Barnes joined mfg’s private client division as a partner on 1 October 2008 after six years with another legal practice in Shropshire. She is now based in the firm’s Shropshire office in Telford as head of the private client division. She qualified as a solicitor in 1997, following five years’ commissioned service in the British Army. Areas of expertise: Her wide-ranging experience includes Will and estate planning, such as the use of agricultural and business property reliefs, probate and trust administration and advice to the elderly, and Court of Protection work. Membership of professional bodies and organisations: Fiona is a full member of the national Solicitors for the Elderly organisation, and is a committee member and current treasurer of the group’s Shropshire and Mid-Wales branch. She is also a trustee of an almshouse charity in Shrewsbury. |

Gurdip Kaur-Brring - Private Practice Development Partner Gurdip Brring, a partner in the family division based at Worcester, is well known for handling complex, high quality private matrimonial work. Areas of expertise: Gurdip advises on all aspects of divorce and family matters with a niche expertise in complex matters involving family businesses, pensions and farming cases. She also has considerable experience in relation to pre-marital agreements and the protection of property on cohabitation. Gurdip has a clear sighted and pragmatic approach, her aim being to help clients reach a resolution to their family conflicts in a constructive and effective way, ensuring that a fair and positive result is achieved. Membership of professional bodies and organisations: Gurdip is an advanced member of the Family Law Panel and Resolution. She is also a trained collaborative lawyer. Alan Neal MA CTA TEP Alan joined mfg Solicitors in 1974 and is now the managing director and finance partner of the firm. He is also office partner of the Halesowen office. He specialises in finance and tax within the private client division. Areas of expertise: Alan has a wealth of experience both in the law and in taxation and is named in the Legal 500. He qualified as a solicitor more than 30 years ago and then obtained dual qualification as a chartered tax adviser some four years later. His professional expertise extends not only to private clients, including high net worth individuals but to owner-managed businesses and the farming and agricultural community. Alan has recently been involved in three high profile inheritance tax cases, namely Antrobus I and Williams, both of which went to the Special Commissioners, and Antrobus II, which went to the Lands Tribunal. All of these cases were groundbreaking in clarifying important issues relating to agricultural property relief for inheritance tax purposes. Membership of professional bodies and organisations: He is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, having previously served on the Birmingham branch of that organisation and on its technical sub-committee. In addition he is clerk to the General Commissioners for Income Tax Purposes for the Kidderminster Division and is also a member of Solicitors for the Elderly, an organisation committed to providing and promoting robust, comprehensive and independent legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their family and carers. Suzanne Lee Suzanne Lee joined mfg Solicitors in 1997. She qualified in 1999, and became partner within the litigation division. Areas of expertise: For the past ten years Suzanne has worked in litigation with a brief interlude working in tax and trusts. Her specialist knowledge of the litigation field is a valuable asset to the firm and she has vast experience advising both commercial and private clients. Suzanne’s areas of expertise include professional negligence, contentious probate and commercial contract disputes. Membership of professional bodies and organisations: She is a membership to the Professional Negligence Lawyers Association and Law Society. Peter Simner - Head of Division Peter has been with mfg since 1983. In addition to being a Partner, he is a Management Board Member and is also Head of the firm’s Residential Property Division and ICT Partner. Areas of expertise: Working in the Residential Conveyancing Division, Peter specialises in mortgages, sales and purchases. His expertise also includes residential estate development with specialist knowledge of acquisition of sites for builder and construction clients, option agreements, conditional contracts and sale of plots following development. With nearly 30 years' experience in his profession, Peter has developed vast knowledge of his sector. He specialises in dealing with private individual clients and small to medium-sized developers. Interests: Peter’s interests are wide and varied, ranging from photography, golf, walking, flying, reading, cooking and gardening (in particular growing hot chilli peppers!!!!!) |

John Morgan - Head of Division With 30 years' experience as a qualified solicitor, during which he has been the managing partner in a leading Middle East law firm and subsequently in various major regional law practices, John Morgan contributes a wealth of knowledge to mfg Solicitors’ expanding company commercial business division. Areas of expertise: Joining the firm as a partner, John brings with him a vast expertise in corporate and banking law matters. With a detailed knowledge and understanding of both company and commercial law and banking issues, John is able to provide business advice to the full range of mfg clients covering topics such as corporate finance, private equity, commercial contracts, company restructuring and sales and acquisitions to name but a few. Specialising in the private sector, he is proficient in working with a diverse range of clients. John previously practised in Bahrain for 11 years, returning to the UK in 1988. He has been involved as lead partner in many major transactions. |

Sally Morris - Head of Division Sally Morris is a partner at mfg Solicitors, heading up the employment division. Areas of expertise: Having practised employment law for some years, Sally is a valuable asset to the firm. As head of employment, she advises the main commercial clients and senior executives on matters of employment. Sally has detailed knowledge and understanding of all contentious areas of employment law including unfair dismissal, discrimination and contractual claims. Additionally, Sally’s expertise extends to include non-contentious work, assisting employers with internal employment affairs, employment contracts and policies. Sally is also able to provide corporate support on business mergers and acquisitions.
