Helping hand for youngsters learning vital skills

  • Posted

A county farm which helps vulnerable young people to develop essential skills is being supported by a Worcestershire law firm.

Funding from mfg Solicitors will help Longlands Care Farm in its work to support vulnerable children across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

The firm has given the Herefordshire-based charity £1,000 to help it provide vocational experiences and qualifications on a working farm.

The Whitbourne-based farm helps young people who are not succeeding in formal education, or who need specific support in social and employment environments. They learn rural-based skills and have the opportunity to gain qualifications to enable them to study further at college.

The backing from mfg comes as the charity prepares for a major fundraising event to be held in Worcester this month.

The ‘Celebration of British Music’ concert by the British Police Symphony Orchestra takes place at Worcester Cathedral on Saturday 16th April from 7.30pm. It features soprano Claire Prewer and tenor Richard Coxon along with The Girl Choristers of Worcester Cathedral.

Iain Morrison, partner at mfg Solicitors and a trustee of Longlands Care Farm, said: “Longlands provides specialist support for young people who would otherwise lose out on important skills and experiences that they will need to be able to get on in life. They do some vital work and change lives for the better and mfg Solicitors are delighted to playing our part.

“The forthcoming concert in Worcester is set to be another great event which will help raise much-needed funds for Longlands. I am sure it will be a fantastic success.”

Julia Evans, chief executive of Longlands Care Farm, said: “We are so grateful for the generous support of mfg Solicitors, who are helping us to make a difference to lots of young people as they prepare for working life.

“The concert also promises to be an amazing evening and I hope as many people as possible can join us and help support so many young people.”

Tickets for the concert, which features Elgar’s Pomp & Circumstance No. 1 and Arne’s, Rule Britannia! are available from Worcester Live Box Office, Huntingdon Hall, Crowngate, Worcester or by calling 01905 611427.
