A Shropshire law firm has donated over £1,000 to a hard-working county charity.
Through a variety of events, including their widely-publicised Ladies Night, staff at Telford law firm MFG Solicitors raised £1,048.61 for Age UK Shropshire (Telford and Wrekin).
The sum will go towards the charity’s Diamond Appeal – an initiative which marks Age UK’s 60th anniversary and is raising funds to support people with dementia by establishing a network of drop-in centres across Shropshire.
Since being launched in December 2010 the appeal has raised nearly £80,000.
Sophie Yates, legal executive at MFG Solicitors in Telford said; “Over the past 12 months we have tried many different ways to raise money for Age UK. Aside from our popular Ladies Night, staff also took part in dress-down days, ran the Lake Vyrnwy half marathon and arranged a fundraising jewellery party.
“These were events which the whole team got involved with as we are passionate about raising money for a charity which does so much for so many people here in Shropshire.”
Hilary Knight, deputy chief executive at Age UK Shropshire (Telford and Wrekin) added; “MFG Solicitors have been big supporters of Age UK over the past 12 months. I’d like to thank everyone at the firm for their kindness and generosity. Our Diamond Appeal has been given another tremendous boost through this donation.
“Living with dementia touches the lives of over 5,000 people across Shropshire and the people who care for them. We hope that by coming along to our new drop-in centres we can help to put a little sparkle back into their lives.”
Age UK have opened two Diamond drop-in centres, one in Telford and one in Bridgnorth. A further two centres are due to open in Shrewsbury in October and more across the county in 2013.
